Art always has a beginning sometimes that beginning starts long before us.
This is a piece done by “Al.” 1955, The artist that started a family and a portfolio. “Al" 1923-2013 Al was my grandfather from my father’s side.
I was born October 15th, 1983, into an artistic family who loved painting, drawing, and, at times, sculpting. My family had been artists since the early 40’s starting with doodles found in letters sent to one another why loved ones were away. Some years later, I found the lost letters and sketches. Donald duck was often re-imagined as a pipe fitter working at a refinery, often with the same ferocious attitude.
Donald Duck was and still is a favorite among many individuals in my family. With a Navy background, Donald Duck was the spitting image of my late grandfather, who also served in the Navy. These pictures were made during the 50’s while in between the times of serving in the Navy.
Humor and wit always finds its way into the arts.
I was fortunate to know classical cartoons growing up. The world of classical cartoons was a different time.
A day in the life, comic edition.
When you depict a day in the life of cartoons, it describes the hard-working man. The impressive thing about taking the time to make art, even if a sketch has the time to make them.
Later in life, these cute little pictures came included with letters that Al would write while away at college, often when he was stuck due to weather and other obligations. The cartoons would later prove to be a small piece of Al’s artistic endeavors
While some spent their time drawing in letters, others took to the canvas. Here are a couple of examples of various painted artworks. As a kid, I was always given some paint and a canvas and was allowed to paint until my heart’s content. Though I wasn’t excellent and created nothing more than abstract pieces, I was in love with Art. The artist responsible for these four pictures went under the name Meo. Meo 1925-2008 Meo was my grandmother on my father’s side, married to Al.
